Summary: This was the perfect place for a family getaway over the holidays, for me, my wife, my mother-in-law, and two kids (ages 9 and 5). The property was incredible. Million-dollar views from both floors of the house, starting with the coffee farm right outside, all the way down to the coast and the ocean. The upstairs porch/lounge made it easy to enjoy the views, as did the huge windows in the master suite (including the bath/shower). The property was very private, and, apart from the coffee, had gorgeous flowers and a plethora of fruit trees--we enjoyed fresh limes, oranges, and avocados. There were also banana and papaya trees but they weren't ripe while we were there. The house had more than enough space for all of us, and the layout was great--the main floor, where the entry is, was an open concept kitchen/dining/living area (again, the views!), with a master suite to one end, and another suite at the other end that was locked up and served as storage for the owners/caretaker. My mother-in-law, who can't do stairs, got the master suite on the main floor and could get around the whole floor just fine. Downstairs was another floor, basically a walk-out level, with another, more casual, living area, a large screened in porch, and two smaller bedrooms, plus a shared bathroom. One bedroom faced the upward side of the hill--the kids shared that one. The other bedroom faced out to the downhill side and the ocean, and that's where my wife and I slept. The screen porch actually had a bed out there, with a privacy screen, and our 9-year-old son opted to sleep out there several nights. The kitchen was clearly designed for someone who likes to cook--two high-end ranges (Viking, I think?) and ovens, as well as two dishwashers, an island, a prep sink in addition to the main sink, tons of counter space, and nearly all the cooking implements you'd need. We cooked several meals there, including Christmas dinner, and I don't think we were wanting for anything. Location-wise, it was great. We were about a 15-minute drive from downtown Kailua-Kona, a 15-20 minute drive from a few of the closer beaches, 30 minutes to Waikoloa resorts, 45 minutes to Hapuna beach. It was really easy to get to various grocery stores, bakeries, Target, etc. from there. Gail, the caretaker, was very friendly and responsive--she checked in on us the first day, and came right away when we had a slight water issue (easily resolved). We loved it and will absolutely stay here again!
